Spiritual Warrior- Unleashing the David Within Us

I am but a small voice but I do believe in battling our own Goliath.  Our Goliaths are our fears, anxieties and stressors. Our Goliaths could be anything as long as it stunts us from living life to fullest. We are just human, but we can still battle our fears and fight just like David did. We all have a David inside of us. It is just waiting to be unleashed. That is why, one cannot just sit down and wait until the David in him just comes out and be ready to fight.  Well, it does not work that way. You have to search, know yourself and trust in God. As David was about to battle Goliath he recited a psalm, a psalm as which we know today as Psalm 23.
Can you believe it? David, despite of his size and built, was not going to run away. He was not going to cry and call for someone to help him.   David was very much ready to fight his battle.  He was willing to sacrifice himself, he was willing to leave this world. It is all because he had so much faith in God.  He trusted God so much that he walked up to that Philistine and gave his best, for God.  Now that is true faith.
This Bible passage is very inspiring and should be applied in daily life. We do not need some giant Philistine to come up to us and challenge us to battle. We all have Goliaths, and we can fight them and absolutely win over them if we just put our faith in God. We just need to trust our God; that with God everything is possible. We have to lift all our doubts and anxieties to God just like what David did. We have to fight for our battles and what is right for God wants us to live life to the fullest. We could be just like Davida warrior of faith. We do not need a sword nor a bow and arrow. For the battle is not out there but it is within us in our heart and mind. We need deep faith in God for faith can truly move mountains.  It is this faith that truly motivates and pushes a warrior, not one’s sword nor one’s bow and arrow.
Look at David, he did not have any sword nor a set of bow and arrow, all he had was a slingshot and the greatest weapon of all his deep faith in God.  This is the greatest weapon a warrior could ever haveFaith. Faith pushed him to fight this giant, faith pushed him to fight his Goliath!

This Bible passage has really taught me to trust in God and that I should not let my problems or doubts interfere with fulfilling my life’s  dreams. We need to fight our struggles and find our faith which would help us battle and triumph over our Goliath. God created us not to live in fear but to live in love, hope and faith. Thus, we should follow His plan and not let the negativity and distractions around us become the center of our lives but we must let God be the center of our lives.  May we always be reminded that we do not just sit around and whine when we have problems.  We are supposed to face them and accept them by lifting all our doubts and worries to the Lord.   Keep in mind that every person has a problem or a concern but remember to every Goliath, there is a David. Once you find and unleash your inner David, you will not only survive but you will thrive. Your inner David will allow you to soar and not just merely fly for the battle is not against the outside world but it is within your mind, heart and spirit.

Why would I recommend Psalm 23 or this blog?

Why would I recommend Psalm 23 or this blog?

We all thirst for spiritual guidance and upliftment.  Most of us live busy lives and we encounter a lot of stressors and challenges.  Because of this, at times we feel emotionally exhausted and depleted and this is where our need for spiritual vitamins come into the picture.   Regardless of our religion, I do believe that we only have ONE GOD- one source of strength and love.  Because of this, I hope that my blog would be a source of inspiration to those who need encouragement and upliftment.

Psalm 23 encourages each one of us -both young and old alike- to unleash our inner David to conquer our Goliath
our fears.

David and Goliath-- 1 Samuel 17

1 Samuel 17

New International Version (NIV)

David and Goliath

17 Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.
A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.[a] He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels[b]; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.[c] His shield bearer went ahead of him.
Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” 10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other. 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
12 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite named Jesse, who was from Bethlehem in Judah. Jesse had eight sons, and in Saul’s time he was very old. 13 Jesse’s three oldest sons had followed Saul to the war: The firstborn was Eliab; the second, Abinadab; and the third, Shammah. 14 David was the youngest. The three oldest followed Saul, 15 but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
16 For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.
17 Now Jesse said to his son David, “Take this ephah[d] of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp. 18 Take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are and bring back some assurance[e] from them. 19 They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.”
20 Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry. 21 Israel and the Philistines were drawing up their lines facing each other. 22 David left his things with the keeper of supplies, ran to the battle lines and asked his brothers how they were. 23 As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it. 24 Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.
25 Now the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.”
26 David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
27 They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”
28 When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”
29 “Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?” 30 He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before. 31 What David said was overheard and reported to Saul, and Saul sent for him.
32 David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.”
33 Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them.
“I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off.40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
41 Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. 42 He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. 43 He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!
45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.
When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran. 52 Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath[f] and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron. 53 When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp.
54 David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem; he put the Philistine’s weapons in his own tent.
55 As Saul watched David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is that young man?”
Abner replied, “As surely as you live, Your Majesty, I don’t know.”
56 The king said, “Find out whose son this young man is.”
57 As soon as David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with David still holding the Philistine’s head.
58 “Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him.
David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

1st place Sci-Math Photo Essay 2012--Becoming Who You Are Meant To Be

SCI-MATH Photo Essay
Theme: Paulinian Spirituality and Excellence in Math and Science: Working Together for Holistic Growth and Sustainable Development
Becoming Who You Are Meant to Be
As we all know, balancing studies, social life, spiritual time and recreation may be hard but there are rules balancing it Rule #1 is Believe in who you are and what you can do. I guess you may be wondering why that is the secret to Becoming Who You Are Meant to be, well it is pretty simple. When we study we have to believe that we can excell in our studies. We have to believe that we are good enough to reach the standards and maybe be even better than what the standards require. When we pray we must believe that the Lord God will help us through our trials and burdens. We must believe that He would not give us something we cannot handle. Also, when we ask for someone or someone volunteers to help you, you believe that person has the purest intentions in helping you. The essence of Rule #1 is Belief. You must believe that we wil always make it through trials. Believe that you are amazing, fantastic, absolutely wonderful and believe in the verse: “ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Rule #2 is Cooperation with your peers. It is because we are all part of The Body Of Christ, and because of that we must work together with our spiritual brothers and sisters. We must be happy for them in their joyous moments and console them in their sorrow. We must work together for Holistic Growth and Sustainable Development. Even in the simplest and most ordinary way, we can help someone up from their sorrow and back on the right path.
Rule #3 is Doing the right things for our betterment and the betterment of others.  When we use social networks, you would usually see unrighteous things. Rule #3 tells us that not just social networks but even ourselves must be used for the up bringing of of others. We must do things to inspire others, to show them how blessed they are and how important they are here on Earth and to God. Even numbers or scientific experiments, they must be used for our mental enrichment not only for ourselves but for others also.
Just follow these rules with a pure heart and you will become who you are meant to be.  You are meant to be a star which shines amazingly bright. Believe that you are really meant to be a star. You are meant to be a light and guide to others. You have to cooperate with your peers to do that. You are also meant to be an inspiration and a good role model for others. You need to do the right things for you and for others to inspire the others to do the same. Apply these rules in your daily life and you will see that you are getting closer to who you are meant to be. You will truly see a difference day by day. And no matter what happens, never forget these rules. I guarantee you that you will be whatever you want with these rules, and you might even become something better than what you expect.
Always remember follow your dreams but keep your feet on the ground. I know that with hard work and faith you can get anywhere. Dreams do come true, but you have to sacrifice. You have to be open to the bitterness and sorrow you might encounter because your hard work will truly pay off in the end. You will see who you are meant to be. Remember those who have helped you on your journey, those people are true friends. Don’t forget that you are truly amazing, you have Paulinian Power!

PRAYER FOR PARENT’S ORIENTATION
Heavenly Father,
Grant us to imitate faithfully the example of your Holy Family
and to make our school, our second home, another Nazareth. May love, peace and happiness prevail in our hearts.
We pray for our parents.   Give our parents joy and strength. Fill them with your strengthening presence. Lord, give them real thirst and hunger for the Holy Spirit and for the Word of God. Give them strength of spirit during challenging times. Please let them know that we truly value them. We love them so much yet we, children at times falter to show it. Please guide all children to show their love for their parents for they are handpicked by God to be our caretakers. Please always bless our parents who have worked so hard and loved us so much. Please give them the strength to carry on with their daily responsibilities and may they realize how much they are loved and appreciated for who they are.

May our parents form a strong partnership with our teachers who also serve as our second parents, so all the things that we have learned in school will be put to good use in the real life setting.
We know Lord that with You everything happens for a reason. May our school Saint Paul College Makati serve as a haven for nurturing children who are God-loving and socially responsible.  We pray that as children of God, we may be good stewards of all Your blessings and may everything we do be done for Your greater glory. AMEN.

May we all have a brief moment of silence for our own intentions.

May we all trust in God’s plan for us, no matter what for You Oh Lord, work in mysterious ways. Grant us the grace to know right from wrong and distinguish good from evil. Please give us the wisdom to know that You give us what we need in Your time. Forgive us Oh Heavenly Father for we have sinned. We are truly grateful for each and every blessing you shower upon us. Please guide us to the light and be good people. Please give us the peace of heart, mind, and soul to know that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH YOU. Amen.
